- PROBLEMS WITH ANANIAS
(along with his wife, Sapphira)
He is a legalist.
He is a hypocrite.
He is a lover of money.
He is a functional atheist.
- Jesus and …
I wonder, how many here squirm a bit at this story, not because of the shocking death of Ananias and Sapphira, but because you identify with their pretension?
The legalist always looks at religion as transactional.
Because the legalist believes he can perform his way into the kingdom in his pride he begins to believe he can also pretend his way into the kingdom.
The legalistic hypocrite spends his day testing his heart against his own thoughts about himself and his perception of what others think of him.
Joshua 7:21
when I [Achan] saw among the spoil a beautiful cloak from Shinar, and 200 shekels of silver, and a bar of gold weighing 50 shekels, then I coveted them and took them. And see, they are hidden in the earth inside my tent, with the silver underneath.
