Psalm 146 | The Justice of God
Preacher: Mark Schledorn

  1. GOD IS JUSTICE
  2. THE IMPLICATIONS OF GOD AS JUSTICE
  3. A LIFE OF JUSTICE
  4. LIVING A LIFE OF JUSTICE BEFORE GOD

Genesis 18:25
Far be it from you to do such a thing, to put the righteous to death with the wicked, so that the righteous fare as the wicked! Far be that from you! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do what is just?

A.W. Tozer
The truth is there is not and can never be anything outside of the nature of God which can move Him in the least degree. All God’s reasons come from within His uncreated being. Nothing has entered the being of God from eternity, nothing has been removed, nothing has been changed.

Exodus 34:6-7
[God is] merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children's children, to the third and the fourth generation.

Luke 4:17-20
And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.

1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Micah 6:8
He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness [mercy], and to walk humbly with your God.

Job 29:11-17
When the ear heard, it called me blessed, and when the eye saw, it approved, because I delivered the poor who cried for help and the fatherless who had none to help him. The blessing of him who was about to perish came upon me, and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy. I put on righteousness, and it clothed me; my justice was like a robe and a turban. I was eyes to the blind and feet to the lame. I was a father to the needy, and I searched out the cause of him whom I did not know. I broke the fangs of the unrighteous and made him drop his prey from his teeth.

Leviticus 19:15
You shall do no injustice in court. You shall not be partial to the poor or defer to the great, but in righteousness shall you judge your neighbor.

John Piper
Christians care about all suffering—especially eternal suffering.
Christians care about all injustice—especially injustice against God.
Every human is guilty of injustice that is infinitely worse than all the injustices against man put together. God is infinitely deserving of human worship, trust and obedience; therefore, treating God as unworthy of our total allegiance makes every person guilty of infinite injustice against God.
