Psalm 46:1-11 | The Power of God
Preacher: John Menton

  1. God’s Powerful Protection
  2. God’s Powerful Provision
  3. God’s Powerful Redemption

It is in the midst of trying times that God’s people celebrate God’s Power. Though the world is full of trouble we have a God who is our help and strength

Job 26:14
Behold, these are but the outskirts of his ways, and how small a whisper do we hear of him! But the thunder of his power who can understand?

Genesis 17:1
When Abram was ninety-nine years old the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am God Almighty"

Psalm 62:11
Once God has spoken; twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God.

Jeremiah 32:27
Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is anything too hard for me?

Job 42:2
_ I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted._

2 Corinthians 12:9-10
My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. … Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Martin Luther,
We sing this psalm to the praise of God, because He is with us and powerfully and miraculously preserves and defends His church and His word against all fanatical spirits, against the gates of hell, against the implacable (plack-able) hatred of the devil, and against all the assaults of the world, the flesh, and sin.

Revelation 19:11-16
Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.
