Mark 11:28
By what authority are you doing these things, or who gave you this authority to do them?

Mark 3:6 (ESV)
The Pharisees went out and immediately held counsel with the Herodians against him, how to destroy him.

Mark 11:32 (ESV)
But shall we say, ‘From man’?”—they were afraid of the people, for they all held that John really was a prophet.

  1. Caesar (those who occupy a present seat of authority) have a right to possessions in this world.
  2. Even the one who submits to the authority of the Lord is responsible to render appropriate “things” to the governing authority.
  3. The authority of Caesar is not absolute.
  4. Jesus makes this pronouncement with such wisdom that he shows himself to be the truth authority over all things.
