Mark 11:28
By what authority are you doing these things, or who gave you this authority to do them?
Mark 3:6 (ESV)
The Pharisees went out and immediately held counsel with the Herodians against him, how to destroy him.
Mark 11:32 (ESV)
But shall we say, ‘From man’?”—they were afraid of the people, for they all held that John really was a prophet.
- Caesar (those who occupy a present seat of authority) have a right to possessions in this world.
- Even the one who submits to the authority of the Lord is responsible to render appropriate “things” to the governing authority.
- The authority of Caesar is not absolute.
- Jesus makes this pronouncement with such wisdom that he shows himself to be the truth authority over all things.
