Sermon Notes

Preacher: Jeremiah Fyffe

1. THE DISCIPLES OF JOHN THE BAPTIST
What the passage tells us:
• The Effectiveness of John the Baptist’s ministry
• Necessity that Jesus is the Christ.
• Relationship between the Holy Spirit and faith in JESUS as the Christ.
The passage raises a few questions:
• What is the difference between the baptism of John and the Baptism of Jesus?
• What is the relationship between the timing of these disciples’ belief, their baptism and the Holy Spirit coming on them?
• Is the Holy Spirit coming on them in this way something that should always happen when a person believes?

2. INTRODUCTION TO THE RIOT

3. NO LITTLE DISTURBANCE
• This line of business of ours will come into disrepute
• The temple of the great goddess Artemis will be regarded as nothing
• Artemis is about to be brought down from her grandeur

4. GREAT IS ARTEMIS OF THE EPHESIANS
5. PAUL WISHED TO GO
6. THE TOWN CLERK
7. THE GOSPEL CONFRONTS CULTURE

Are there any teachings in the scriptures that you need to allow to interrupt and confront the normal flow of your life?

David Peterson (Pillar)
These colleagues acted with a measure of independence, standing in for Paul in some contexts, so that, ‘for all his heroic stature in Acts, Paul does not stand alone’. Once more, an implicit ecclesiology[that is, teaching about the church] is indicated by Luke.

Pillar - David Peterson
Christianity had the potential to change the culture of the city, but would it succeed?
