One of the first gifts God gave to humanity was food in the garden. Meals have played an integral part in the feasts of the people of God. All of humanity, whether acknowledging God as their provider or not, have gathered around the table to eat and to fellowship.
Jesus spends much of the book of Luke around a meal table with a diverse gathering of persons. Here we see him enjoying the gift of God while creating a new fellowship; a fellowship of brothers and sisters around a table of grace.
